Despite its name, Atlanta Safari Park is in Commerce, Georgia. It is worth considering when you want one memorable animal activity without building a full theme-park day around it. The practical question is whether your children will enjoy animals approaching the family vehicle.

Location, tickets and the real family total

Navigate to 6210 Highway 326, Commerce, GA 30530. Published hours are 9 a.m.–5 p.m., with the last car admitted at 4 p.m. The park lists adult admission, ages 13–64, at $17.99 and child admission, ages 3–12, at $13.99. Under-threes are free.

Example: two adults, three children ages 3–12Subtotal
Admission$77.95
One safari feed bucket$5
One giraffe-feed cup, if available$5
Example before taxes/fees, fuel and food$87.95

These extras are optional, not a promise that every encounter will operate. Confirm current rates and availability before paying. Official prices, hours and directions.

Know the vehicle rules before arriving

The safari uses your own vehicle; the FAQ says rental vehicles are unavailable. Stay inside during the drive-through and keep doors closed. There is a separate walking area. Animals may approach vehicles, and the park places responsibility for vehicle damage on visitors. If you have a rental car, check its terms before deciding to drive through.

Only park-provided animal feed is allowed. Keep the family's snacks separate. The park allows picnics, but human food must not be shared with animals. Giraffe access is weather-dependent; the FAQ lists heavy rain, lightning and temperatures remaining below 50°F as restrictions. Read the park's vehicle, weather and feeding rules.

A calmer visit with several children

Before arriving, explain what will happen: animals may come close, nobody has to feed them, and doors stay shut. Give a nervous child a comfortable viewing option rather than making feeding a test of bravery. Keep children properly restrained whenever the vehicle is moving.

Our suggested sequence is simple: bathrooms first, the drive-through next, then a break before deciding how much walking to add. Allow slack rather than attaching a prepaid activity immediately afterward. The park estimates about 90 minutes for a visit; a family's pace can be longer.

Food, packing and spending choices

A packed lunch makes the day's cost more predictable. Plan to wash hands after animal activities and before eating. Put wipes, spare clothes and a trash bag within easy reach, while keeping loose items away from open windows. A washable bag is more useful here than a complicated outfit.

Agree on a feed and souvenir budget before the children see the choices. If each child wants a separate purchase, multiply it out in advance. Sharing one optional purchase may suit your family, but do not assume staff can split a feed portion or guarantee an encounter.

Two mistakes to avoid

  • Booking the wrong safari: Commerce, Cleveland, Pine Mountain and Madison are different destinations. Match the street address before paying.
  • Leaving animal feeding until a late arrival: last admission is not a promise that every part of the visit will fit comfortably before closing.

Best value approach: make the safari the day's main paid activity, bring lunch, and leave room for the children to decide whether they want more time or an early trip home.
