ATLANTA · A LITTLE COSTUME, A REAL DAY OUT

The costume is ready. The question is whether the day around it will work for your child. Boo at the Zoo Atlanta 2026 runs October 17, 18, 24, 25 and 31, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For toddlers and younger school-age children, its appeal is a daytime animal outing with Halloween woven through it. The event is included with general admission, but parking and optional experiences still count. Choose the visit for the animals and activities—not just the candy bag.

A cheerful Halloween, with room for a shorter day

The official event program includes trick-or-treating for children, carnival games, crafts and live entertainment. Members and children under 3 enter free; other guests need admission. There is no separate Boo surcharge. Our editorial pick is families with preschoolers or younger elementary-age children who enjoy animals and gentle seasonal fun. An older child looking for a frightening haunted attraction may want a different plan.

Choose one performance rather than chasing all of them. On October 18, the program lists Captain Crimmins & the Story Boat Band at 10:30 a.m. and magician Tommy Johns at 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. That gives you a practical choice: music before an early lunch, or magic after it. For a child who still naps, finishing with one happy memory is a perfectly good use of the day.

The family price changes at the third birthday

The official Select Your Date calendar showed $39.95 for ages 12+ and $31.95 for ages 3–11 on all five Boo dates when checked. These are displayed ticket prices, not a completed checkout quote. Under-3s are free. Select the correct date and review the final amount, including any taxes or fees, before payment; the lowest price in the store’s general range is not necessarily available on a Halloween date.

SAME OUTING · DIFFERENT FAMILY MATH

Start with the day, then add the extras.

$123.85

Two adults + one child age 3–11 + one child under 3.
$111.85 entry + $12 daily parking maximum.

$155.80

Two adults + two children ages 3–11.
$143.80 entry + $12 daily parking maximum.

Illustrative subtotals using October 10 calendar prices. Excludes ticket taxes/fees, parking-app fees if applicable, food, rentals and optional experiences. A shorter parking stay may cost less.

That distinction matters more than a long list of add-ons. Decide whether a stroller rental or one animal experience improves your day before buying a ride package. The Zoo also lists Georgia SNAP/WIC and military admission offers; check the applicable eligibility and booking instructions if they fit your household.

Make arrival the easy part

Zoo Atlanta is at 800 Cherokee Avenue SE, Atlanta, GA 30315, in Grant Park. Use that address for the Cherokee Avenue lot, or 759 Boulevard SE for Grant Park Gateway. The published parking rate is $3 per hour, capped at $12 per day. Three hours is therefore $9 at the base rate; four hours reaches the cap. The Zoo estimates an average visit around three hours, but extra festival stops can stretch it.

At Gateway, take the parking ticket with you and use the pay-on-foot machines before returning to the car. At Cherokee, follow the posted payment instructions; ParkMobile users should use the zone shown on site and watch the session expiry. From Atlanta’s northern suburbs, leave room for traffic rather than promising a fixed drive time. Arriving near opening is our planning suggestion, not a guarantee of empty paths.

THE EDITOR’S OCTOBER 18 MORNING

One show. A few animals. A proper pause.

9 A.M. · ARRIVESettle in, locate a restroom and choose a few animal stops.

10:30 A.M. · MUSICCatch the scheduled Story Boat Band performance if it suits your child.

AFTER THE SHOW · FOLLOW THEIR INTERESTTry a craft or trick-or-treat stop, then leave time to eat and rest.

Suggested order, not an official tour or walking route. Check the day’s map and performance updates on arrival. Add time for queues and your child’s pace.

Dress for walking, not just the photograph

Keep the costume easy to sit in, remove and layer. The Zoo’s rules prohibit costume masks for guests 12 and older. The event also excludes large full-body inflatable costumes and anything frightening, sharp or resembling a real weapon. Comfortable shoes and an uncovered face are a simpler choice than a cumbersome outfit. Bring a small bag your child can comfortably carry.

The accessibility page lists single-stroller rental at $11 plus tax and double-stroller rental at $13 plus tax. Bringing your own suitable stroller avoids that rental cost. Nursing spaces include locations by Flamingo Plaza, Willie B’s Pizza and the Grand Patio area. Families with sensory needs can use the Zoo’s sensory resources to plan breaks; a cheerful event can still feel busy.

Choose the extra that earns its place

If your child is more interested in animals than rides, giraffe feeding is listed at $5, or $4 for members, per feeding. It is purchased on site by card and depends on weather and animal participation; it cannot be promised as part of the itinerary. Children 3 and under must be held, and guests 15 and under need an accompanying adult. Use only the food supplied by the Zoo.

For lunch, The COOP lists chicken tenders, fries and plant-based nuggets, with weekend hours of 11 a.m.–2:30 p.m., subject to change. Check the menu board before ordering; we have not verified a current meal price or tasted the menu. Sips, near the entrance, serves Portrait Coffee and snacks. Give lunch its own pause instead of asking candy to stand in for a meal.

Boo operates rain or shine, though individual activities may change in rain. Its 4 p.m. finish is separate from the Zoo’s currently listed weekend closing time of 6 p.m. Check your date again before leaving. Also, the current ticket notice says the new panda habitat opens November 6, so do not promise a panda visit during Boo.

For the child who loves animals, a manageable morning may be more memorable than staying until everyone is exhausted. Buy the day that fits your family, leave optional spending optional, and give yourselves permission to head home while the costume is still comfortable.

Before booking, confirm current prices, entry rules, opening hours, and road conditions with the official provider.
